The Story of the “Garden of Hope”

The Regional Substance Navigation Program (RSNP), Community Impact, and Chris’ Corner has collaborated with The Milford Highway Department, Milford Parks Department, Milford Fire Department, Milford Police Department and the Office of District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. to bring you the Garden of Hope.
The Garden of Hope was created by volunteers from the community and individuals who are in recovery from addiction/alcoholism as well as family members of individuals struggling with addiction/alcoholism. It was a great opportunity for both addicts, alcoholics and their family members to come together along with businesses and people from the community.
Our hope is that we can provide a peaceful place where all individuals in the community can come together for a variety of different reasons. We encourage community members to feel free to plant in the garden, pick herbs & ripe vegetables, and tend to the garden as they feel comfortable. We ask that you remain respectful to the space by not leaving trash and remembering to take only what you need, as other members of the community could benefit from the herbs and vegetables as well.
All the work done on this project was done by volunteers. This sign and the bench were built by an alcoholic in recovery, this was his opportunity to give back to the community. We encourage you to take what you feel you need from the garden and enjoy the space, but we also ask that you give back as much as you can. This can be time spent in the garden weeding, planting or watering. If we all pitch in as a community, we can create a peaceful, sustainable place that the whole community can enjoy.

Special thanks to:

  • Milford Highway Department for preparing the garden and donation of the mulch

  • Milford Parks Department for the land and water container

  • Milford Fire Department for supplying the water

  • Milford Police Department for monitoring the grounds and their belief in our idea

  • Volunteers, without all of you we would not have been able to turn this space into a beautiful garden

Our Garden of Hope - maintained by our community, for our community.
We appreciate your support and respect!

We want to extend a special thanks to our fabulous volunteers who harvested the vegetables on September 24th.

From our garden, we were able to donate 12 heads of cabbage, bunches of kale, summer squashes, peppers, rosemary, and sage to the Daily Bread Food Pantry in Milford.
